Publisher: Collins and Van Nostrand, 1953, first, limited edition. Folio sized volume, bound in half red leather over marbled boards. Number 100 of 295 copies, signed by the three authors on the limitation page. With marbled slipcase.
This is a magnificent book, and in this limited edition it does full justice to the fine bird books it catalogues. There are 38 tissue-guarded plates, 16 of which are in full colour, and one of these is a folding plate (of the trogon, or quetzal bird), and 22 of which are monochrome.
The book is in very good condition. There is some damage with loss to the foot of the spine, and the corners are lightly bumped. The free endpapers are very lightly age-toned, and there are a very few light isolated marks to pages. The large folding plate has a slightly creased edge due to careless closing of the book, but the image is unaffected. Otherwise the book is clean, bright and tight in its binding.
The slipcase has some damage with losses to the corners and tabs of the portal, and it is slightly rubbed.
This is a large heavy book,(4.5kg packed weight, so overseas postage is very high), 51cm (20 inches) tall, viii, 120 pages.
