Scarce early original vintage photograph shows a view from Coney Island looking at the Brighton Beach Hotel.

Notation on back reads, “NY City - ca. 1900 - CONEY ISLAND - Looking East from Coney Island toward Brighton Beach Hotel”.

In an effort to compete with Manhattan Beach and Coney Island, the board of directors of the Brooklyn, Flatbush and Coney Island Railroad bought half of Engeman's property at Coney Island Avenue and built the 3-story, 174-room Brighton Beach Hotel. The grand hotel became the summer home of the New York Club, the Bullion Club and the Seidl Society, which in September 1889 hosted a luncheon for Susan B. Anthony, the veteran women's rights advocate.

Photograph measures 4 x 6 inches and is in very good condition with a couple bends at top border area (see scans).  There are no tears or creases and the image is very sharp and has strong tones with good contrast and clarity.  Back has writing mentioned above.
