Presented here for your bidding perusal is this antique hand carved Erzgebirge Christmas angel figurine made by the renowned Wendt & Kuhn factory in Germany! Hailing from a heavily forested region, these woodcrafts have been made by the company since 1915, I believe. The company may even be in business still, to this day, however, this example bears an early green label and is not to be confused with similar items from the 1980’s and 90’s.

This richly hued example stands 5 1/4” tall to the tops of the ombré blue wings. Both the wings and the variegated burgundy gown are decorated with gold painted details, bringing to mind falling snowflakes. The head has sweetly painted facial features and blonde hair with applied pigtails. Note the lovely brass halo framing her face. The Angel holds what must represent gilded sheet music. I believe it is a very thin piece of wood shaving rather than paper. The label can be found still affixed to the bottom, which is also marked “Made In Germany,” as shown.

In the last photo I show some more Wendt & Kuhn angels I found with this piece. I’m selling the three candle holders together in a separate listing. I don’t know if they were intended to be a set or not. While not included here, these other Christmas treasures can be viewed in a separate listing.
