Task Force White Eagle (in Polish referred as Polskie Siły Zadaniowe (Polish Task Force)) is a brigade sized detachment of Polish Land Forces in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. The brigade is under the command of the US 1st Cavalry Division. The brigade is divided into two major elements. The kinetic element consists of units that are going into direct contact with the enemy and the non-kinetic element consists of support and logistic units. The basic combat vehicle of Battle Groups is KTO Rosomak in various variants. Rosomak is complemented by Cougar H (MRAP) and HMMWV leased from the USA. Lightly armored HMMWVs are used only in situations that exclude use of heavier vehicles. Fire support is provided by 98mm M-98 mortars and 152mm Dana howitzers. Air support is provided by Independent Air Group using Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters as well as UAVs.

TF-WE was comprised of the 21st Mountain Brigade (Podhale Rifles), commanded by BG Janusz Bronowicz. TF-WE's higher command, Regional Command-East (Combined Joint Task Force [CJTF]-82), was commanded by MG Curtis Scaparrotti (82nd Airborne Division commanding general). BEST-A4 was commanded by COL Paul Fanning from Illinois Army National Guard (ILARNG). A year prior to our arrival, the Polish Land Forces (PLF) assumed responsibility for the security of Ghazni Province in Afghanistan. 1 deployed with the sixth rotation of Polish troops to Afghanistan. The BDE totaled approximately 2,000 troops, which included two Infantry battalions, a brigade-level headquarters, and support units. Prior to October 2008, Polish involvement was restricted to operations around the village of Sharana in Paktika Province, east of Ghazni--and limited to a battalion-sized force.
