A remarkable find! SO SO SO LOVELY ~*~ This curtain  is an antique French fabric dating from 1860-1870's ~ truly amazing ~ this fabric is 100% printed using hand carved wooden blocks. This textile is constructed by seaming 3 widths of this stunning fabric together to make this large textile! ~ The ground is blotch printed first, using a large block with an absorbent material such as felt. Next, the hand carved woodblocks were placed depending on color and the fabric was printed using approx. 7 blocks ~ This fabric would have taken a great deal of time to create, a very very high quality fabric! This is a wonderful heavy weight , linen and cotton blend ground, with beautiful plain weave. The ground has  a very gentle nub. The colors are heavenly, muted gorgeous shades of : antique pink, deep earthy raspberry red, pale and medium tones of muted greens, off-white, pale blue , muted mauve and the ground is a warm tone of brown ~ ( close to latte, however warmer in tone ~) ~ This wonderful panel is  in as found, unwashed condition and I've chosen to leave it this way as the ground and tones have developed such beautiful patina , it would be a shame to see it go. This panel can be hand washed and hung to dry, however I believe some of the character and charm will be washed away at the same time! ~*~This textile is in gorgeous condition!!! There are a few small holes , some light storage dust and some pale storage marks ~ a true antique French textile treasure ~*~ ( I 884)
