Being offered for your consideration is this gorgeous American 19th Century Tilt Top Pie Crust Table. This lovely table is made of solid mahogany and has a hand carved (not applied) pie crust edge on the scalloped top. The legs were carved from solid mahogany and have unusual carved pad feet. The legs are joined with fine hand dovetailing (see images). The column was turned from a single piece of mahogany and is beautifully proportioned. The top is once again made of 6 solid mahogany boards indicating its 19th century origins. This table is in amazing unaltered condition with what appears to be its original finish in place (as we have seen no evidence of previous refinishing), with all its parts appearing original as well with the exception of a replacement screw or two (see images). The overall appearance of the table's original finish is very nice and in good condition with a deep patina and expected antique wear. It could probably use a more thorough cleaning and a fine waxing which we will leave to the buyer as to preference. The wood is in very nice shape with some expected small indentions and scratching. There is no warping or major repair work with a fine hairline crack to the block which holds the lock keep under the table top (see images). This was re-glued long ago and has no effect on the function of the table or the locking mechanism. The top moves freely and the lock fastens the top securely with no concerns. The table stands 30" tall and is roughly 31 1/4" in diameter. There has been shrinkage over the years making the diameter measurement vary from which direction according to the grain you measure. I believe this table is originally from the Virginia and dates to the mid 1800's. A lovely intact piece of American furniture from the long past sure to add warmth to your home and value to any collection!
