Pocket Watch Protector
(Fits - 2" Diameter Case Pocket Watch)
The item measures approx, 5.6cm across at its widest point, 8cm top to bottom not including the loop.
The item was manufactured around the turn of the 19th/20th century and was used traditionally by Welsh Miners to protect their beloved pocket watch from dust and damage. The practice was adopted by other industrial workers of the period.
They were usually suspended from the clothing with a hook and chain. When this eventually broke through use, other more individual suspension materials were used.
The item has seen extensive use and has visible repairs. The pendant cover has splits and the suspension loop is broken.
There are also a couple of rim chips on the inside of the glass.
