This charming Pietra Dura Italian Mosaic Plaque features a classic Italian landscape scene with several house, a road, trees, shrubbery, a body of water, and mountains in the distance all below a blue cloudy sky. The details are fabulous--look for the small sailboat on that deep blue water! The skill of Italian craftsmen who created these fabulous hard stone plaques is legendary. The pietra dura works coming out of India just do not compare in complexity, colors, or design.
This gem measures 4 1/8" high x 5" wide. It is in great condition with no chips to the edges. There are small felt discs attached to the back, but this could easily be framed to hang on a wall instead. This is a mid-20th century piece and unfortunately the artist is unknown as the artwork is unsigned.
