~*~ Hello and thank you for looking ~* ~

~*~ Beautiful and very rare ! ~*~ This gorgeous textile is an antique French bed hanging valance, dating c1830-1840. This beautiful, deep aubergine purple  toile textile was printed in Alsace and  is still wonderfully saturated in tone! The toile is so wonderfully playful! ~ scenes of joyful tricks and family games surrounded by wonderful foliage , very typical of this period in Alsace~*~ This textile is intact and has a lovely return on the back! This is a lightly quilted textile with the original tape at the top, where it would have been nailed to the side of a bed. There is a very light cotton batting between the two layers. The top of the back, uses a wonderfully aged linen and cotton homespun fabric . The purple toile is a printed cotton, medium weight. This textile has survived in spectacular condition !! It's been stored for many years and has a dusty odor when held closely. This textile can be hand washed and hung to dry, however I prefer to leave that up to the individual so it's being sold in unwashed condition. There are a few very tiny holes in the toile, generally in STUNNING condition. The top tape has tiny nail holes surrounded by rust ~ both sides and the bottom scallop are all finished with a hand stitched hem ~ a GORGEOUS and rare textile, ideal for any collection ~  *~   ~ *~ ( textile 209)

MEASUREMENTS : The drop of this valance is 31  inches at the widest point of the scallop. The length is 70 inches wide! ~*~

CONDITION :  This stunning textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition ~  please see above for specific condition details ~*~ ~*~
