The chestnut vase was a typical Dutch and English phenomenon. The vases, always in pairs, emerged in the last quarter of the 18th century. They were used during the evening meal to warm chestnuts to serve. At the tea they were used for chestnuts or glazed bricks ananas. The vases were put on the mantel to dry and to keep the chestnuts fresh.
