African Giriama Ankle Bell, made from Iron with Stones inside, Kenyan Coast, Handmade

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Here we have a single Ankle Bell, made from iron and containing a number of stones, from the Giriama on the North East Kenyan Coast.

These would be strapped to the ankle and would give a lovely tinkling sound as the wearer danced.  Used for tribal dances and ceremonies.

The bell is in good condition, please see the photographs for full details.  This set was part of a private collection bought by the shop.  The bell has not been restored and has a heavy patina of oxidisation.

The bell weighs 28g.  It measures 6cm long, by 2.5 cm high and 3.5 cm deep.  All measurements are approximate.

RETURNS
