This awesome genuine Mexican folk art papier-mâché table is signed at the bottom of the lion’s mane “Sermel Tonala Jal Mex.”.

Sermel being the “Sermel Workshop”. The workshop was founded in 1963 by Sergio Bustamante and Melquiades Preciado, the name Ser-Mel is a combination of the first three letters of their names. Sermel papier mache workshop was located in a beautiful old adobe house in the Historic District of Tonala, the renowned folk art town in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

Recently another one of these tables was featured on the 3rd episode of the immensly popular "Tiger King" documentary on Netflix.

The table has some cosmetic damage with the enamel coming off in a few spots but overall it’s in great condition. Looking at the piece as a whole most people will not notice the minor damage. At its longest this table measures 51” without the glass and 36” at its widest without the glass. This piece comes with the original beveled glass straight from the workshop. The glass measures 43” at its longest and 35” at its widest. The glass sits at about 14.5” high and the height of the sculpture itself measuring from the base to its highest point(front claws) is 19”. Any questions feel free to ask!
