MotorsportMemorabilia 1986 Grand Prix commemorative cover signed MARC SURER

1986 was a closely fought season with the Williams-Honda FW11s of Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet leading most laps and winning 9 races but Alain Prost in the McLaren-TAG Porsche MP4/2B took the drivers? title when Mansell burst a tyre when leading the last race at Adelaide.

Williams easily won the Constuctors? Championship with McLaren second and Lotus third. The MCM artwork depicts Alain Prost?s McLaren- TAG Porsche MP4/2C sandwiched between Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet in the Williams-Honda FW11s.

The third special envelope is signed by MARC SURER who started racing karts before upgrading to Super Vee and being runner-up German Formula Vee Championship in 1974.  With the KWS team he was second in the German Formula 3 Championship in 1976, driving a Chevron-VW.  For 1977, he progressed to Formula 2 and also drove in the German Touring Car Championship.  In 1978 he was runner-up to team mate Bruno Giacomelli in the European Formula 2 Championship for March-BMW; he also won the Suzuka F2 Race.  As March-BMW team leader, he became the 1979 European F2 Champion. His F1 career started with a race for Ensign in 1979; followed by an injury hit season with ATS.  Retuning to Ensign for the first part of the 1981 season, he achieved 2 finishes with points, including a fastest lap in the Brazilian GP; he ended the year with 7 races for Theodore.  1982 saw a move to Arrows, after recovering from leg injuries sustained at Kyalami; over 3 seasons, he gained 6 finishes with points.  For 1985 he moved to Brabham and achieved 3 finishes with points.  The same year, he also won the Monza 1000 Kms Race in a Porsche and the Spa-Francorchamps 24-Hour Race in a BMW.  He returned to Arrows for the early part of the 1986 season, prior to retiring from Formula 1 after crashing a Ford RS2000 on the Hessen Rally in German. Post F1, he has been a commentator and presenter for Swiss / German Television Motor Sport and Chief Instructor / Director of BMW Motor Sport.
