A part of Charles Bridge with sculptures and a boat on the river. It is one of the most beautiful etchings of the artist who was well-educated from the best etchers of USA and who is regarded as a professional artist of the highest calibre between the etchers Europe and USA. It is remarkable the fine gradations light and shadow, his amazing attention and a sense for details, his considerable power of expression of perspective of urban landscape. Artist#Engraver: JOHN CHARLES VONDROUS (1884–1970) is a prominent representative of Czech and American art and graphic art of these two countries especially. Born in a small Czech village near a small town, he spent a considerable time in New-York and in reality grew up in America. He was well-educated by some prominent American artist such as George Willoughby Maynard and other as F. Jones, Edgar M. Ward, who were his teachers at the Academy of Art in New-York, but the etching class of James David Smillie gave direction to his future work. Their influence left a distinct stamp in his work. Vondrous was in his time exact convincing etcher of architectural subjects. His very first prints show great respect for draughtsmanship with a delight for strong contrast of light and shade. Vondrous is primarily an etcher, consummate craftsman, thoroughly versed in the technic of his art.

One could see his amazing works in the National Gallery of Prague, National Gallery and Library of Congress in Washington, British museum in London, The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the New York Public Library.
