Extremely RARE Bronze Indian Peace Medal, Presented to Chiefs, Calgary, Canada in 1901 (lot 8001)

This is 1 of ONLY 24 ever created. 1 of a kind. There was one on display at a show in Regina in 2019. This was collected by my dad decades ago.

In 1901, HRH The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary) went on a world tour and visited (in part), Calgary. They took part in the assembly of North American Indians on September 28, 1901. At this ceremony, they presented 12 silver medals to the Head Chiefs and Bronze medals to 24 "Lesser Chiefs."

This is one of the medals.

The obverse depicts the conjoined busts of the Duke and Duchess with an inscription. The reverse has the date and the presentation.

Size is 64.8 mm and about 4-5mm thick

Weight is 115 grams or 4 oz

Composition: Bronze

These were made by the P. Ellis Company of Toronto, Canada
