This is a rare May 8th, 1927 program (playbill) from the National Tour engagement of the JOHN COLTON and CLEMENCE RANDOLPH play "RAIN" at the Shubert-Lafayette Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. (The production opened November 7th, 1922 at Maxine Elliot's Theatre in New York City and ran for 648 performances before going on the road.) ..... Based on the W. SOMERSET MAUGHAM story, "Miss Thompson", the play starred HAZEL WHITMORE as "Sadie Thompson" and featured MARY MEADE, K. P. HOWWAH, K. A. FERNANDO, EMMA WILCOX, BARNEY CRANEY, DON AUSTIN, HERBERT CLARK, RAPLEY HOLMES, ISABEL O'MADIGAN, ORRIN BURKE, VALERIE VALAIRE, BURFORD HAMPDEN and AVERILL HARRIS ..... CREDITS: Book by JOHN COLTON and CLEMENCE RANDOLPH founded on the story "Miss Thompson" by W. SOMERSET MAUGHAM; Sets designed by JOHN HINTON; Produced and Directed by O. D. WOODWARD ..... DETAILS: The 34 page program measures 5 3/8" X 7 3/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios. The front cover features TED LEWIS who would be opening later in the month in "RUFUS LeMAIRE'S AFFAIRS" at New York's Majestic Theatre ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a small chip in the outside edge of the title page and minor edge wear, this program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
