Hot Wheels' Speed Machine is actually an evolved version of the Mantis casting, designed by Ira Gilford in 1970. The name changed to Double Vision in 1973, and again to Speed Seeker from 1984–1987. After nine long years, Hot Wheels decided it was time to release this one-of-a-kind race car once more, and dubbed it the Speed Machine. While the canopy of the updated casting no longer opens, its sleek body and cutting-edge design makes up for this tenfold. The 1997 White Ice Series version sports a radiantly white body and matching interior for a winter-inspired take on this inimitable vehicle that's built for speed.
