Dried Spices

Produced from the bark, buds, or seeds of aromatic plants, spices have long been used as flavor additives for both sweet and savory recipes. They are generally used in dried form, either whole or ground. For optimum potency, purchase our whole spices and grind them just before use. However, if you're looking to cut down on preparation time, we also carry a large selection of convenient pre-ground options.

Storage:

  • Dried spices are best stored in sealed containers in cool, dry environments, away from extreme heat and direct light. A consistent environment and temperatures below 70 degrees Fahrenheit allow for best results.
  • It is not recommended to store dried spices in the refrigerator because of slight humidity.

Usage:

  • Remember, dried spices have more concentrated flavor than fresh spices. For most dried spices, use 1/4 to 1/3 the amount that is called for fresh spices.
  • It is not recommended to sprinkle spices directly from the bottle over a steaming pot. This can introduce moisture to the bottle, resulting in loss of flavor and caking of contents.
