I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ....... This is a rare March 19th, 1968 "Stage" playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the ERICH SEGAL, ANNE CROSWELL and ERNEST GOLD musical flop "I'M SOLOMON" at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore, Maryland. (Premiering in New Haven as "IN SOMEONE ELSE'S SANDALS", the production would eventually open April 23rd, 1968 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York City and close after only seven performances.) ..... The musical starred DICK SHAWN, CARMEN MATHEWS, KAREN MORROW and SALOME JENS and featured JOHNNY LA MOTTA, PAUL REED, KENNETH SCOTT, ALICE EVANS, MARTHA VELEZ, FRED PINKARD, AL COHEN, SHERRY LAMBERT, NIKOLAS DANTE, CLIFFORD ALLEN, AL DESIO and GARRETT MORRIS ..... CREDITS: Music by ERNEST GOLD; Lyrics by ANNE CROSWELL; Book by ERICH SEGAL ("Love Story") and ANNE CROSWELL based on the play "King Solomon and the Cobbler" by SAMMY GRONEMANN (Segal had his name removed from the credits prior to the Broadway opening); Sets designed by ROUBEN TER-ARUTUNIAN; Costumes designed by JANE GREENWOOD; Choreographed by DONALD McKAYLE; Directed by MICHAEL BENTHALL; Produced by ZVI KOLITZ, SOLOMON SAGALL and ABE MARGOLIES ..... DETAILS: The 20 page playbill measures 8" X 8" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors and members of the creative team, but no cast photos ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian .....
