I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ........ This is an October 1961 "Playgoer" playbill from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the ROBERT WRIGHT and GEORGE FORREST musical comedy "KEAN" which played the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The production would open November 2nd, 1961 at the Broadway Theatre in New York City and close after only 92 performances.) ..... The musical starred ALFRED DRAKE and featured LEE VENORA, OLIVER GRAY, JOAN WELDON, RODERICK COOK, PATRICK WADDINGTON, TRUMAN SMITH, ALFRED DeSIO, CHRISTOPHER HEWETT, ROBERT PENN, ARTHUR RUBIN and PATRICIA CUTTS ..... CREDITS: Book by PETER STONE from a comedy by JEAN-PAUL SARTE (based on the play by ALEXANDRE DUMAS); Music and Lyrics by ROBERT WRIGHT and GEORGE FORREST ("Kismet", "Song of Norway", "Timbuktu", "Anya", "Grand Hotel"); Sets and Costumes designed by ED WITTSTEIN; Musical Direction and Vocal Arrangements by PEMBROKE DAVENPORT; Directed and Choreographed by JACK COLE; Produced by ROBERT LANTZ ..... DETAILS: The 16 page playbill measures 6" X 9"  inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of the leading actors, but no cast photos ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Inevitable" which was cut out-of-town and "The Social Whirl" which was cut after the Broadway opening ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
