This bowl is for the Crown Chakra. Note B.

The crown or the seventh Chakra is located at the top of the head. Just as the Root or First Chakra connects us to the Mother Earth, the Crown Chakra is our connection to the Universe. In fact, the Seventh Chakra disperses the Universal energy or life force into the six other Chakras located below it. In Sanskrit, the Crown Chakra is termed as the Sahasrara (the ‘thousand fold’ Chakra), since it is pictured as a lotus having thousand white petals.

Location of the seventh Chakra– Top center of the head, mid line between the ears.

Organs and functions connected to the Crown Chakra– Head, brain, ears, eyes, pineal gland, skeletal and muscular systems as well as the skin.

A special bowl or seven bowls can be placed on a Buddhist altar and the bowl or 7 bowls are symbolic offerings to the Buddha.

If you place seven offering bowls they represent ,water for washing of the hands, water for bathing the face, flowers, incense, drinking water, food and music. The light offering are represented by butter lamps. Saffron can be placed in the three bowls containing water, while rice, with the appropriate offerings placed on top is used in the other four bowls. Offerings are usually made in the morning.

Tibetan Offering Bowl's are a conspicuous feature in Tibetan Buddhist Temples and monasteries throughout the Himalayas.

THE BUDDHIST OFFERING BOWL

Buddhist Monks own only a few things such as robes and an offering bowl. While most people spend a great deal of time on a new hairstyle, Buddhist monks shave their heads. Buddhist monks are not concerned with outward beauty, but they are concerned with developing their spiritual lives.

The shaven head is a reminder that the monks have renounced the home life and are a part of the Sangha.

Offering food to monks is a part of Buddhist tradition. In Asia, it is not unusual to see monks walking towards the villages early in the morning carrying their offering bowls. They do not beg for food, but accept whatever is offered. This practice not only helps the monks to be humble, but this gives laypeople an opportunity to give.

In some countries laypeople go to the monastery to make offerings.

The robes of monks and nuns are simple and made from cotton or linen. Their colour varies according to different countries. For instance, yellow robes are mostly worn in Thailand, while black robes are worn in Japan. In China and Korea, gray and brown robes are worn for work, while more elaborate robes are used for ceremonies. Dark red robes are worn in Tibet.

Robes and offering bowls are very important to monks and nuns.

The Buddha said, "Just as a bird takes its wings with it wherever it flies, so the monk takes his robes and bowl with him wherever he goes."

In Tibet and other Buddhist countries including Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Thailand and Cambodia monks are not allowed to cook for themselves. The Buddhist monks depend completely for their food mostly from local women and men. The monks and novice monks leave their temple before sunrise and start their procession around their own Temple. Local people line up on the street with food for the monks. The monk opens his offering bowl and the women will put a few spoonfuls of food in it. Mostly what the monks get is rice and a little bit of meat or vegetables. The women will kneel on mats and not look at the monks, the men will stand and can look at the monks.

The monks do not thank for the food as they give opportunity for the laypeople to do good deeds and earn merits.
