An original broadside printed in 1848 at the office of the Jeffersonian, West Chester, PA.

The broadside is advertising the last concert of the Nightingale Ethiopian Serenaders, before their departure of Lancaster.

It reads: "Positively the Last Concert of the Nightingale Ethiopian Serenaders, Previous to their departure for Lancaster, as they are announced to perform in that city on Tuesday evening. / To Conclude with The Laughable Burlesque Opera Lucy Long / Change of Programme Consisting of J. K. Search, Violin, M. W. White, Banjo, W. H. Morgan, Tambo, Harry Lehr, Bono Castinets, R. Paul, Harem Bell. Together with Mr. G. Kunkel, The Celebrated Primo Basso of the Chestnut street Opera House, Philadelphia, will appear and perform several of his favorite pieces during the evening, making the greatest combination of wit and talent that has ever appeared in this place - most respectfully announce to the Ladies and Gentlemen of West Chester. That they will give one of their inimitable entertainments, at the Cabinet Hall, Monday evening Nov. 20, 1848. / The would also state to persons who refrain from visiting Ethiopian performances in general, that there is nothing introduced in their performances, neither by word, look nor action, calculated to offend the most fastidious. During their tour South they have passed the severest ordeal of criticism, and have been pronounced the best Company in the United States. / M. W. White, Will perform his celebrated Banjo Solo. Master R. Paul, Will appear in a favorite Dance. /... / The whole to conclude with the celebrated Burlesque Opera of Lucy Long (With all the original Music, Songs, and Dances, as performed in Philadelphia last season for upwards of seventy consecutive nights, with unbounded applause.) / .../ "Those who love to laugh, ought to visit the "Nightingale Ethiopians." The Company is strong and well timed, and while they discourse most excellent music, nothing is introduced to offend or diter the elite and fashion from attending. Their entertainments are superior to anything of the kind yet introduced. - Ed. This rare broadside measures approx.: 24.25" x 6". It is wrapped in plastic with a poster board to prevent movement. There is a small chip at the top. Some discoloration, offsetting and a few folds, else in very good condition.
