  A Sarcophagus from the Museo Pio-Clementino - 1811 Copper Plate Print

A sarcophagus is a box-like funeral receptacle for a corpse, most commonly carved in stone, and usually displayed above ground, though it may also be buried.

The Pio-Clementino Museum (Museo Pio-Clementino or Musei di Scultura) was founded in the 18th century by Pope Clement XIV and enlarged by Pope Pius VI.

SUBJECT/TOPIC: A exceptional engraving from a 1811 book on Roman and Greek tombs, sepulchral chambers and mausoleums, as well as accompanying ornamental objects

This engraved copper plate print has exceptional detail;

NOTE: The picture does not capture the fine detail in this print.  Lettering is very legible, it just does not photograph well. Most apparent shading (especially along edges) is not in print but due to a paper unevenness effect in photography.
