• ~*~Hello and thank you for looking~*~
An extraordinarily rare and wonderful textile. This textile has been in my private collection for many many years.  This textile is a late 18th or very early 19th century bedspread. I have a strong hunch that it was printed by John Hewson , a famed Philadelphia textile printer ( 1745-1821) . The 2014 Met exhibition " Interwoven Globe" showed a fabulous similar bed cover , attributed to John Hewson. While I can not confirm that this is one of Hewson's textile, neither can I deny it. I believe with further research a link may be found.  The stylized designs is very reminiscent of his late 18th century textiles, which drew on the designs of palampores, Persian textiles and even Indian knotted carpets. This textile is a hand block printed and is backed in a modern cotton. The small scale stylized leaf design and floral basket are European in inspiration . The border design has extreme fragmenting on the areas of this textile which used  a corrosive mordant ( please see photographs ) this textile has been also restored in places with a mesh netting. I discovered this textile in the USA in a private collection. This textile is an extraordinary find and is worthy of any museum collection.

CONDITION: There is a large degree of fragmenting and deterioration on the border edges of this textile. The central body has remained in wonderful condition ! ~ This textile should  be conserved ( condition reflected in the price)  I 126
