The coin was designed by Irish artist Gabriel Hayes and featured a stylized bird on one side and the Irish harp on the other
It was the smallest denomination of the pound and was first issued in 1971 when Irish currency was decimalised.
The coin was bronze in composition which consisted of copper, tin and zinc
It had a diameter of 17.14mm and weighed 1.8 grams.It was worth 1/200 of a pound
It was removed from circulation in 1987
