They are offset from one another so that they are made to cross.  The glove display is designed to be shadowed by the gloves, making them appear to float on the wall.  And if you decide that you want to take the glove display off the wall and put it within a jersey display case, you can do that as well.  Gives you the collector extreme flexibility.
