Description
Vintage hunter-skinner manufactured by the famous “Cutlers to their Majesties” George Wostenholm in Sheffield, England, circa 1930th-1940th. George Wostenholm had been one of the best makers of knives, bayonets, swords, and various cutlery in the British Empire since 1745. Sadly, the company got sold in 1971.
This is a nice and sturdy Hunter with a relatively thick blade and a very comfortable stag handle. The overall quality and balance is excellent; all parts are tight with no play. The blade is a bit pitted and has been cleaned. Ricasso is stamped with the famous I✱XL trademark (meaning I Excel) and a company logo on one side. The blade has been re-sharpened; it’s very sharp still; the tip is intact – rare this nice. Genuine stag handle and stag pommel with colored spacers and bronze guard; the handle is tight. The knife is about 8-7/8″ / 22.5 cm overall; the blade is about 4-5/8″ / 11.8 cm long. Original MADE IN ENGLAND brown leather sheath is in great condition, considering the age; the leather is soft and supple still. Don’t miss your chance to add this scarce vintage Hunter to your collection!
