16 Artist Jazz Guitar Solos: A collection of transcriptions as performed by some of the top names in jazz guitar, including George Benson, Johnny Smith, Jimmy Ponder, Pat Martino, Grant Green and Peter Bernstein
This collection of guitar solos represents a wellspring of technique, stylistic flavors and ideas from which both aspiring and established jazz guitarists can draw inspiration. A suggested way to practice is to listen to the original recordings, memorize parts of the solos or entire solos and attempt to capture the same "feel" as the artist. By practicing transcriptions in this way we guitarists can advance our craft through expanding our stockpile of ideas, our concept for swing, our technical facility and our ability for communicating our own unique spirit through jazz music.
Six artists are represented in this book: George Benson, Johnny Smith, Jimmy Ponder, Pat Martino, Grant Green and Peter Bernstein. To varying degrees each of these artists has left unique contributions to the history and evolution of jazz guitar, and each exhibits a very different style, technique and vocabulary.
