Here is a vintage and collectable ORTOFON  radio station 5KA cartridge in original container. This is a mono 78 cartridge used from the 50's and 60's at AM radio station 5KA in the days when it's studio's were at Franklin street Adelaide in South Australia. The station played mostly rock and pop songs and in the late 50's and early 60's hosted request and other shows. The 70's saw the format change with a new program director Barry Bissel to a new format that took 5KA to number 1, "Rock Station 5KA". Just before this time I was one of the first graduates of the SABN school of broadcasting, taught by Vaughn Harvey, and went on to a career spanning the next 50 years in the broadcast industry. This cartridge at the closure of the studio's in Franklin street came under the caretaker ship of Vaughn Harvey used to play many of his valued 78 collection of records.

It transferred to my care after Ray Beale was given the cartridge on Vaughn's passing, and similarly passed away. The stylus is still in good condition (I recently transferred a few JOK 78's to digital using this very cartridge), the serial number is 130415. Ideally I would love this to go to a 5KA fan from the past. It's value is both what it is and it's historical past playing countless hit's to listeners over the years.

NEW ******  I just located the rare Ortofon RK309 broadcast long tonearm and the matching pair of JS moving coil stepup transformers that also came from 5KA back in the 60's, also included a new set of jewels for the tonearm. Super rare to find all this in one package and from one radio station.

Songs of the time in the 5KA top 40 charts included

The Battle of New Orleans, Mack the Knife, Personality,Venus, Lonely Boy,Dream Lover, The Three Bells, Sleep Walk,  (Till) I Kissed You , The Happy Organ, (Now and Then There's) A Fool Such as I, Teen Beat,

And some Australian artists recorded on 78's included

Dig Richards & The R'Jays, the Atlantics,  Rolf Harris, Lonnie Donegan,
Johnny O'Keefe, Lonnie Lee, Johnny Ashcroft, Col Joye and the Joy Boys, Frank Ifield, Lucky Starr

Some great radio memories from 5KA
