“In 1981 we - Ann Berlips and George Cramer - founded our company in Amsterdam.
We already know each other from secondary school. At that time we were both interested in vintage clothing and soon knew various addresses where we could buy beautiful vintage clothing. We then sold our discoveries at the Noordermarkt in Amsterdam and, from 1983, also in our first Exota store in the Jordaan, a charismatic district west of the canal belt.
In the 80s we brought our first own product onto the market: a black turtleneck sweater that was worn with Levi's 501 jeans. The demand for black turtlenecks was so high that we couldn't find enough vintage examples. While looking for a nice name, a vintage bowling shirt brand crossed our path: King Louie . We then adopted this name. We have always attached great importance to developing clothing that makes people happy. Vintage-inspired clothing with self-designed patterns, very colorful and with a good fit. In the 90s we moved the Exota store to the Hartenstraat in the Negen Straatjes in Amsterdam, where we have remained to this day. We have been working with many shop owners for years and our products are in great stores all over Europe. We are happy with Allen our partners, including the individual manufacturers who produce the products. It is very important for us to offer our customers the best possible service and we continue to strive for this every day, together with our team.”
