Hergé was a Belgian cartoonist best known as the creator of the iconic comic series The Adventures of Tintin, which relays the story of a young Belgian reporter who travels the world with his dog Snowy to solve crime.
Born Georges Prosper Remi on May 22, 1907 in Etterbeek, Belgium, Hergé spent much of his adolescence in the Boy Scouts. Besides growing to love hiking and adventure, he also began to foster his artistic skills at the encouragement of his scoutmaster, displaying his cartoons as illustrations for the publication Boy-Scout
The idea for Tintin originally began as The Adventures of Tortor, made for his scout magazine before Hergé officially created the series in 1929.
Today, Tintin has been adapted into movies, television, and radio, and has solidified Hergé’s status as one of the leading cartoonists of the 20th century. His works can be found in a museum dedicated to his work, the Hergé Museum in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. Hergé died on March 3, 1983 in Brussels, Belgium.
