NEW YORK CLIPPER, July 8, 1882. This complete as issued 16 page newspaper billed itself as The Oldest American Sporting and Theatrical Journal. It was founded in 1853 and published weekly, containing an astonishing amount of information and illustrations from every realm of sports, the sporting world, and theatre and entertainment. It also contained writeups about Boxing, Wheeling or Bike Racing, Lacrosse, Horse Racing, Rifle Shooting, Track and Field, Cricket, Lacrosse, Walking, Billiards, Aquatics, Sailing, Rowing and Sculling, and games like Chess and Checkers, Card Playing, Poker Tournaments, Shuffle-board and so much more!

And from the worlds of entertainment, it often carried state by state listings of what plays, Negro minstrels, circus, and side show acts, special theatrical events, operas, etc were being held, the attendance, and a review of the event.

Each issue also contains wonderful advertising for minstrel songs, musical instruments, sporting goods, art related to the theatre. In many ways this publication took what todays "Sporting News and Variety" magazine produces to incredible lengths, more than a century earlier. This illustrated newspaper measures 12 x 16 inches in size, is in excellent condition, highly displayable and is guaranteed to be as described.
