Tales of their great rescues abound, but where did it all begin?

High in the Swiss Alps is the

Hospice du Grand St. Bernard.  The monks living there worked to aid travelers and to rescue victims of avalanches and bitter winters.  It is documented that by 1707, the overworked monks realized that dogs were better equipped to guide and rescue travelers.  The story of the brandy keg is perhaps just one of lore, but the breed of the St. Bernard truly did evolve from these roots.  The Saint is still a mascot at the monastery.

This cute little charm is a big old Saint Bernard dog with a brandy cask attached to his neck.

This charm is sterling silver and stands approx. 3/4” tall.
