This is a rare programme (playbill) from the opening weeks of the Original West End production of the W. G. WILLS and SYDNEY GRUNDY romantic drama "THE POMPADOUR" at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London. (The production opened March 31st, 1888 and ran for 100 performances.) ..... The play starred H. BEERBOHM TREE and Mrs. H. BEERBOHM TREE and the cast included HENRY ASHLEY, ROYCE CARLETON, Mr. F. HARRISON. Mr. W. RUSSELL, Mr. G. HONEY, Mr. F. JERRARD, FRED TERRY, CHARLES BROOKFIELD, CHARLES ALLAN, Mr. VOLLAIRE, Mr. G. HUMPHREY, STRATTON RODNEY, Mr. BARRON, ROSE LECLERCQ, Miss ACHURCH, Miss LE THIERE, MARION LEA, Miss NIAS and Miss AYLWARD ..... CREDITS: Book by W. G. DETAILS: The four page program measures 5 1/2" X 8 1/8" inches, is printed on a card stock and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) There is considerable edge wear with clipped corners, a split seam, a chip at the center fold and tape repairs inside. There is also a handwritten comment and date (April 7, 1888) on the front cover. Despite these flaws, this rare program will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
