The Aussie-5

Use it as a guitar amp or a valve preamp for guitar or mic for a home studio, you can also use an MP3 player or mobile phone using the insert socket, or as general utility amp for computer sound or other applications. A great starter amp kit.

After 12 months in R&D and fine tuning finally the Aussie-5 champ amp kit is ready. This is an entry level guitar amp kit with an Aussie sound to it, if you like the Goldentones and Maton amps of the past we have re-created that here in an easy to build amp. The amp features dual impedance speaker outputs of 4 and 8 ohms, uses an Australian made ROLA output transformer and has an insert socket so you can use an external FX rack or just use it as a valve mic preamp for a home studio.

It uses the 6BL8 as voltage amp and preamp as often used in Aussie amps of the 60's the output valve a 6AQ5 both valves made in Australia by AWA and Philips. You can change the 7 pin socket for an octal one and use a 6V6 if you prefer the performance is identical.

Resistors are Byschlag and Rhoderstein precision 1% and the capacitors EVOX from Europe. The PCB is reversible so that you can also add turret pins to make a modern turret board if you prefer to build it that way. Standard turret pins fit the holes.

You even get to make your own flat pack chassis which has been precision laser cut, it comes with a small panbrake that you also get to assemble and keep for other projects. The amp runs from normal valve high voltage supplies from a pre assembled HV inverter, all filaments run from a regulated 12v plugpack that provides a no hum power supply. Best of all there are no power transformers or 240v AC to wire up, this makes the amp a safe option to build.
