REVOX A77 fuse holder  repair kit

While most electronic repairs can be easily undertaken on vintage Revox tape machines there are sometimes a few gotcha's the fuse holders are one of these . When originally made the A77 series tape recorders were only meant to last 3 years but here we are 40 years later and these are the most popular machine to be restored. I have personally restored/repaired well over 500 of these and other REVOX /Studer machines in the last 40 years and in my opinion these machines have well survived their designed life many fold, a testament to the original design and manufacturing, one of the best domestic machines ever made second only to the OTARI MX5050.

Enter the A77 fuse holder repair kit which includes 4 x special 1ag SIZE fuse holders. The originals are low cost parts they were just soldered into the PCB, over time they oxidize making for an intermittent contact with the fuses. There are 4 sets of these troublesome intermittent fuse holders, one in each monitor amp board and two in the power supply board. These cause all kinds of intermittent symptoms, which can be difficult to find. These are a specific replacement make that has the correct 1AG spacing and plated connections, the end to end pin spacing is such that it fits the monitor amp boards perfectly (on the REVOX monitor amp board one pin is shared with a TCW link on the PCB, so Jaycar ones are too large to fit and the pin to pin spacing is incorrect. The new connectors are supported by a plastic body so that you get an instant click feel when the fuse locates correctly. The original PCB style  pins also loose tension over time and many I have found have not tinned properly when the REVOX boards were originally made and the holders soldered into place - dry joints abode. Just adding heat and trying to reflow the old ones just makes matters worse.

4 x fuse holders are included in the kit with free post Australia wide.
