Marion Island, one of the loneliest outposts of the Commonwealth is located 1,000 miles south of Cape Town. It was discovered in 1772 by Marion DeFresne.  Its population is only the meteorological staff of the South African Weather Bureau with observations being made for the International Geophysical Year.*  This cover is cancelled on the First Day of Usage on Marion Island's temporary Postal Agency.
