In1884, The Waterman Pen Company was founded and at its height was the largest pen manufacturer in the world, known for “Waterman’s Ideal Fountain Pen.” The production of ink followed and ”Waterman’s Ideal Ink” was born. another successful endeavor.

The company existed well into the 20th Century, but by 1958, with competition from names like Shaefer and parker, it was sold to Marcel L. Bich of Paris, France. Bich explained that a new line of inexpensive ballpoint pens would be manufactured.

Chances are very good YOU HAVE USED ONE of the newest sensations in the pen industry: the Bic pen!  It was made by Waterman-Bic, Marcel Bich’s new company, with Bich spelled without the “h.” Within ten years they were producing over 2,000,000 pens a day!
