Mauro Mejiaz. Biscucuy, Venezuela 1930 - Paris 2000. He was a Venezuelan painter and sculptor with an indigenous mother and a father of Italian descent. At the age of 15 he moved to Valencia where he met Braulio Salazar, who guided him in the early years of his artistic activity and encouraged him to formalize his art studies. He studied at the Escuela Artes Plasticas de Valencia (Venezuela). In 1948 he entered the Arturo Michelena School, where he remained until 1952. In 1955 he was appointed assistant professor of sculpture and ceramics at that institution. Under the influence of Siqueiros he becomes interested in social realist painting. Founding director of the School of Plastic Arts Armando Reverón of Barcelona in 1958, he assumes, in 1962, the direction of the page of art of the newspaper La Antorcha (El Tigre, Anzoátegui State).

In 1961 he made a gigantic mural: Allegory on the History of Universal Culture, at the Cajigal High School in Barcelona (Venezuela). In two occasions he has the opportunity to travel abroad with modest scholarships of the private company, although in 1964 he settles in France, country that granted him the citizenship and where he lived until his death.

Mauro Mejía. Biscucuy, Venezuela 1930 - París 2000. Fue un pintor y escultor venezolano de madre indígena y padre de ascendencia italiana. A los 15 años se trasladó a Valencia, donde conoció a Braulio Salazar, que le guió en los primeros años de su actividad artística y le animó a formalizar sus estudios de arte. Estudió en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Valencia (Venezuela). En 1948 ingresó en la Escuela Arturo Michelena, donde permaneció hasta 1952. En 1955 fue nombrado profesor adjunto de escultura y cerámica en esa institución. Bajo la influencia de Siqueiros se interesa por la pintura realista social. Director fundador de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas Armando Reverón de Barcelona en 1958, asume, en 1962, la dirección de la página de arte del diario La Antorcha (El Tigre, estado Anzoátegui).

En 1961 realiza un mural gigantesco: Alegoría sobre la Historia de la Cultura Universal, en el Liceo Cajigal de Barcelona (Venezuela). En dos ocasiones tiene la oportunidad de viajar al extranjero con modestas becas de la empresa privada, aunque en 1964 se instala en Francia, país que le concedió la nacionalidad y donde vivió hasta su muerte.
