Gypsum material , hand carved, raised relief.

Gypsum plaster was easier and faster to produce than ceramic.

Negatives: more easy to break and separate over time, paint did not retain well.

Chalk ware is also described as ‘ poor man’s porcelain’.

This medium flourished in the mid-century modern (1945-1965) era.

It was inexpensive and expressive medium for the home.


Measurements: 11.5” high, 6.5” long, 8.25” wide, 4.75” in diameter at base, 2” diameter at opening, 4.5 lbs.


Condition: very good for vintage, construction and wear. All intact, no repairs noted, no breaks, cracks, chips, observed.
