Slow fashion empowering indigenous women in Peru

The impact we make
Handmade Stories
Handmade Stories is a female-owned slow fashion brand and social enterprise that supports women in rural communities in the Andes, artisans, and men in prison in Peru so they can reach economic independence and keep their traditions alive.

All our clothes are limited edition and incorporate traditional Andean motifs handwoven by women so they can have a fair income without having to leave their communities to work. This allows them to have their own income so they don't have to depend on their husbands. We also support the ones that want to start their own businesses and dedicate part of the profits to undertake development projects in the communities.

The handmade motifs
Each motif tells a story and represents aspects of life in the community
The motif on this sweatshirt is called Hakaku in Quechua and represents a tool they use to cut the grass to feed the animals. Because of its shape, it's also commonly known as the claws of the puma, one of the three sacred animals for the Inkas.
Please note that each woman may weave the motifs slightly differently so the ones in your clothes might not look exactly the same as the ones in the picture. This makes every piece unique and special.
Materials
The sweatshirt is made of 60% cotton and 40% polyester.
The motifs have been made using a blend of alpaca and sheep wool, so they are soft to the touch.
What is eBay for Change?
We’ve have partnered with Social Enterprise UK and the World Fair Trade Organisation to develop eBay for Change—a programme designed to support the growth of the social enterprise sector. Every purchase from an eBay for Change social enterprise will have a direct positive impact on supporting disadvantaged communities—whether that’s providing job or training opportunities to people who are distant from the labour market, tackling social problems like homelessness and exclusion, or improving people’s life chances, or supporting enviromental action.
