The exciting ethereal fragrance of pure Blue Lotus Natural Perfume or Attar as it is known in India is extracted by steam distillation and skilfully blended with the warm depths of Mysore Sandalwood and other natural ingredients to produce a beautiful and unique natural attar or perfume which is also alcohol free.

The word "Attar" is derived from the Hindu/Urdu word Ittar which in turn derives from the similar Persian word for Perfume, Itar, and is an essential oil derived from botanical sources usually blended with a wood oil like, but not always, Sandalwood.

The practice of extracting scent from flowers herbs and spices began in India and has been used there for at least 5,000 years by skilled artisans to produce exquisite fragrances with some attars actually improving with age like a good wine. The ageing period can last from one to ten years depending on the botanical used and the results desired. Most commonly these oils are extracted via hydro or steam distillation and generally natural perfumes which qualify as Attars are distilled with water rather than by chemical means and they are also alcohol free.  Attars are a luxury and in ancient times were used in offerings to the gods.

For thousands of years, ittars were considered in some societies to be something that attracted angels and warded off evil spirits. Saints and spiritual aspirants would adorn themselves with these scents to assist them in their journey towards enlightenment.
