Vintage Made in Japan Lusterware Creamer & Sugar with Lid Snowy Scene. Very good condition, the creamer has what looks like a small past crack at the rim next to the handle that has been very well repaired (see photos). I am however not certain that this is a repaired crack, it might be a seam in the pottery, I am not certain.  Otherwise, excellent condition without chips or cracks. Both marked Made in Japan on bottom. Both footed and 6-sided. Pearly luster background with hand painted raised paint of snowy scene in black, white & orangish red. Has 2 buildings/houses, trees, shrubs, birds in the sky. Snow on the trees, shrubs, & ground. Both have black handles; the creamer has one and the sugar has two. Sugar has lid with black handle. Creamer is 3.5" tall, the top opening has a 2.5" diameter, and the base has a 2.5" diameter. The sugar is 4.75" tall with the lid on, the top opening has a 2" diameter, and the base has a 3" diameter. The lid has a 2.5" diameter. 

Lusterware was first developed in the 9th century in Mesopotamia in the Middle East. The iridescent quality is the result of a metallic glaze that is applied during the last firing of the piece. Japan has produced Lusterware since the 19th century. It was in high demand from the 1920s to the 1940s. Popular pieces included tea sets, luncheon sets, wall pockets, vases, condiment sets, and ashtrays. Lusterware was popularized in Japan by brothers Ichizaemon & Toyo Morimura, and it was produced by factories all over Japan. There are 4 classes of Lusterware: Copper, Platinum, Gold, & Pink/Purple.
