“6 in a Ford” by Marion
C. Holmes was written in 1951 and is “A Tale of a Nation-Wide Tour by a Family
from Maine”. Cecil T and Marion C. Holmes were both mathematics teachers at
Bowdoin College when they decided to take a six-month leisurely trip from Maine
to California. Marion writes in the preface “This is not an hilarious story,
but the simple, direct narrative of a family trip, written to tell you, if you
are timid, that it is less difficult than you think to venture into the unknown”
and that was written almost seventy years ago before the smart phone to give
directions. Published by Falmouth
Publishing House of Portland, Maine, signed by the author and Illustrated by
Peter K. Holmes.
