1846-O Liberty Seated dollar, authenticated / graded / encapsulated by NGC as AU details, for cleaning. It was cleaned, as were most Liberty Seated dollars; but at least the job was gently done, leaving the coin with its details showcased in brilliance, with the help of NGC restoration services. This silver dollar, pre-Morgan, was one of the New Orleans Mint's first, as 1846 was the first year of minting dollars; and one of only four years, here and there, before the Civil War and the temporarily closing of the mint. The 1846-O is scarce above VF grades; so even if lightly cleaned, it is difficult to find a specimen that is not that much worn. Because of this "first," the 1846-O dollar has been a desired coin for type collectors and also enthusiasts of what was still Early American history.
