Korea South 2022 "Chwitadae - Traditonal Korean Marching Band" Strip

Gugak is a music formed by reflecting the lives and emotions of our people for a long time. Among them, "Chwita (Haengak)" is a music played by kings, high-ranking officials, and the military, and the band in charge of playing chwita is called "Chwita University." Like its name, "Fire Kochi is Music" introduces Chwitadae, which raised the dignity and power of the royal procession.

Chwita, as its name suggests, is a music centered on percussion instruments and percussion instruments, and includes all music related to the deeds used for the king's movements or military marches. These five songs, including Chwita, Gilgunak, Giltaryeong, Byeolwoo Jotaryeong, and Gunak, are called "Music of Chwita" and are used by kings of the Joseon Dynasty when they travel outside the gates or tombs, or when military marches or improvements are made.

The Chwita Battalion was held by the army, so each army had a different outfit. Currently, Naechwi, a form of a court chwitadae in a yellow uniform, is being introduced. The musicians of the whole high note are called chwi-go-su, and the musicians of the latter high note are also called seak-su, and the whole high note is usually organized as percussion instruments, and the latter is centered on melodic instruments. Among the chwita music, Daechwita consists of general percussion instruments and chwita instruments (Nabal, Nagak), and melody instruments such as flute, haegeum, and daegeum are added when playing chwita, Gilgunak, and Giltaryeong.

The commemorative stamp shows a total of nine chwi-tats, three for each stamp, holding different instruments or baton. If you look at the first space on the left, a military officer dressed in a military uniform leads the chwi-ta-dae in the front with a lantern in his hand. It is followed by a nappak player made of a long bamboo flute and a large conch shell. And the only rhythm instrument of the Chwitidae is Taepyeongso, followed by Janggu and Yonggo, the representative percussion instruments. On the far right is a gong that marks the beginning of the chwita performance, a bara that you encounter with both hands, and a unra that collects 10 small gongs and hits them with a wooden hammer.
