Offering a large, very vintage hand-made diorama - shadow box, primitive country back woods scene.

This handmade naif scene measures 15" in height - 10" wide across - 9.5" deep.

I acquired this and some others found in a barn loft, when the barn was sold. No one knows who made them or when. My guess is that they were the folk craft of a farmer during the long winters up here in the Northern territories, where we are close to the Boundary waters. Most of them are backwoods scenes with a specific focus on hunting and fishing and camping.

This scene was built in a handmade wood beverage crate from the 1940's. It is completely open so it became a bit dusty over the decades. I have wiped and dusted and vacuumed it as best I can. It is also not in pristine condition as a newer one might be. There are gouges, cracks in the old wood, glue marks, stains and fading and everything in and out is of an extremely handmade nature. I have taken a lot of pictures so you can see for yourself that this is an OLD very primitive piece,100% original and not a professional piece.

This scene features a family returned to their cabin from fishing. Lots of interesting little things make up the scene, the family with their poles, an icebox, a stove, an old crank telephone on the wall, furniture, food, a made up bed....
