Haase. - Cover lightly rubbed, author's name handwritten on cover, otherwise clean. - From the text: At the heart of ancient and medieval hermeneutics lies the distinction between a text’s narrative and its core of meaning; and correlatively, a distinction between literal and allegorical, superficial and thoroughly penetrating, forms of readership. This paper explicates an established, age-old, relationship between the “literal sense” and the feminine reader, or, from a slightly different perspective, between hermeneutically inessential texts and an audience of indocti. Hence, I have chosen to focus on the term fabula anilis which not only denotes a shallow narrative lacking in symbolic dimensions, but which also identifies this inferior form of textuality as feminine.
