Dimensions: 290 x 190 mm

Language: Latin

Calligraphy: Gothic script

Design: The book from which this leaf came was scribed and illuminated in Paris, France, c. 1247 AD. The large size of the page is unusual in 13th century Bible production! Written in Latin in Gothic script on animal vellum on both sides of the leaf. Four two-line illuminated initials alternating in red with delicate blue pen-work, and blue with delicate red pen-work – extending into the margins and continuing the length of the leaf in red and blue; numerous one-line illuminated initials alternating in red and blue. The calligraphy is excellent, and the vellum is of the finest style, extremely thin and very white.
