THUJA OCCIDENTALIS FASTIGIATA
The tree is columnar with dark green needles. It is characterized by a fairly rapid growth: at the age of 12 years, its height is 2.3 m, the crown diameter is 1.5 m, it bears fruit well. Propagated by seeds and cuttings.
Illumination requirements: sun or partial shade. Cold-resistant, wind-resistant, well-tolerated haircuts. It is used both when growing in separate specimens, so it is suitable for growing in hedges.
When planting, the distance between plants should be from 0.5 to 3 meters, less often 5 meters. In a hedge with a two-row planting 0.5-0.7 meters, and with a single-row 0.4-0.5 meters. When planting avenue, it is recommended to maintain a spacing between trees of 4 meters. The planting depth is 60-80 cm. When planting, a soil of the following composition is desirable: sod or leafy soil, peat, sand (2; 1; 1). Drainage with a layer of 15-20 cm is used on the underlying clays.
Care consists in spring feeding, which is applied in a complex way at the rate of 100-120 grams per 1m2 only a year after planting. In the first month after planting, it is recommended to water once a week, 10 liters per plant, and sprinkle in the same way. In the dry season, watering 15-20 liters per plant and sprinkling twice a week. All thujas prefer moist soils in dry places and in the shade of tree crowns begin to thin. They loosen shallowly 8-10 cm since the thuja have a superficial root system. It is recommended to mulch with peat or chips with a layer of 7 cm. Dry shoots are removed annually. For hedges, a moderate haircut is used no more than 1/3 of the length of the shoot. Crown shaping is carried out as needed.
